CAMPED LAKE LASCELLES
A tight squeeze getting out of the Court this morning with neighbour DHs parking opposite each other and leaving a small width of road open. Carol folded their outside mirrors back which left us about 6 inches each side of the van. Out OK then an easy Sunday morning drive with minimum traffic along Eastlink, Royal Park to Tullamarine Freeway then Calder.
A morning tea stop at Lockwood, lunch and fuel at Wycheproof arriving at Hopetoun around 3.00pm. A nice spot free camping around the Lake but our hopes of sitting in the sun were not to be as the whole day has been cold and windy. Mainly a North East head wind which has not helped fuel economy but created no concerns driving. A 2 km walk around the lake was a small amount of exercise after sitting all day. The spot we pulled up had a fire place and even some wood but we decided that the cold and wind made sitting in the van with the diesel heater preferable. We both have colds but hope some warmer weather soon will help.
We decided this trip as a weight saving measure to bring casks of red instead of bottles but I think our tastes have been spoilt at home and after a couple of glasses with our Pasta dinner we are definately not fans of the cask but need to finish 2 of them before maybe returning to bottles.
Although we miss our family it is nice to get away after 2 years on an extended trip.
Great to read your blog and sounds like a successful first day (once you coped with the DHs)!! Have a wonderful trip – you deserve it! We’re just home and unpacking! Off again in 7 weeks to some warmer weather – Halls Gap was freezing and wet!!
