Day 5 Thursday 30 May 2019

BON BON TO TARCOONYINNA 459 kms

Sunny clear blue sky again but still a very cold wind which luckily has changed to a South Easterly which is better than the previous head wind. Stopped at Coober Pedy to fill with fuel and water. The water station that was set up a few years ago now has only one functioning outlet which can mean a bit of a queue of caravans. Cost us $4.00 to fill the tanks which is good value considering the scarcity of water in this area.

There are a lot of caravans heading South but overall not a lot of traffic going in either direction which is a surprise as other years we have been here it has been very busy.

Camped in a gravel pit tonight with only one other van some distance away.

Spoke to Michelle and Jaxon earlier in the day then did Facetime with Michelle and Cooper later and it was good to see them and Ash but Cooper that Nana and Pa were on the screen and he kept trying to touch us.

Lots of flies still and after my earlier ponderings I have been assured by a realiable source, thanks Julie, that flies only live for 15 to 25 days so probably could not fly 🤣 far. This raises a question do flies use thermals and if the wind was right could they use the thermals and wind to get home. The current strength of the wind here suggests that it would not take long. Carol has also raised a question of weather flies can tell the time as they all seem to disappear at Happy Hour time but that may be related to the Sun.
