Day 6 Friday 31 May 2019

TARCOONYINNA TO OWEN SPRINGS TURNOFF GRAVEL PIT 330 KMS

Weather still the same sunny and windy. Crossed the border into Northern Territory this morning and stopped for fuel at Erldunda Roadhouse which is at the turnoff to Ayres Rock. It was an absolute madhouse with probably 10 or 15 vehicles lining up for fuel with only one line of pumps accessible as a truck unloading stock for the Roadhouse blocked the rest and the people at the back of the line having no idea what was happening. A worker at the Roadhouse did direct us to a pump around the side which was a Fast Flow pump which is OK for our tank and we filled faster than others. The next fun began when you went to pay with only one Register operating for everything and that person also serving food. Expensive fuel at $2.12 a litre and indifferent service but when you have a monopoly you probably don’t care about Customer service.

Had intended stopping at Finke River but arrived there early and after lunch decided to continue further to get into Alice Springs earlier tomorrow to do some shopping. Another Gravel Pit tonight with lots of rubbish but plenty of room and we were the only ones there until late afternoon when another van arrived then 2 rooftop campers.
